Iraqi police prevent protestors from breaking into Dhi Qar council

BAGHDAD, July 15 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Police used sound bombs to prevent hundreds of protestors from breaking into Dhi Qar Provincial Council in southern Iraq on Sunday.
In a statement to KUNA, Iraqi police sources said that the protestors tried to break into the council's outer fence in Dhi Qar's capital Nasiriyah.
The protestors are still in the building's surroundings and have burnt tires and blocked roads leading to the council, the statement added.
The council was set to hold an urgent session to look into the protestors' demands today.
Several Iraqi cities are currently hit by wide demonstrations demanding job opportunities and better services. (end) ahh.ag
