KUWAIT, July 15 (KUNA) 1775 -- First record of mail, originated in India, passed through Kuwait on its way to London.
1932 -- Kuwait announced smallpox disease as an epidemic until end of year, as the disease killed over 3,000, mostly children. Kuwaiti's called this year "the year of smallpox" due to the large numbers of people who were killed or affected by the disease.
1961 -- The Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued decree 23/1961 on Kuwaiti income tax for commercial companies in the neutral zone.
1964 -- Decree 36/1964 was issued over regulating commercial licenses, which were only to be issued for Kuwaitis.
1967 -- The first issue of Al-Yaqatha magazine was published. The magazine covers a range of issues from politics to entertainment.
1967 -- The first issue of Al-Nahdha magazine was issued with Yousef Al-Musaeed as its first editor-in-chief.
1978 -- Draft law 31/1978 was issued on the preparation of the state's public budget. The draft law covered the supervision tools and the regulations on the final statements of the budgets.
1987 -- Bomb exploded in Al-Salhiya area, near Air France, killing two people in the attack.
1991 -- Foreign Ministers of the Damascus Declaration held their fourth meeting in Kuwait to issue the final statement for the declaration. It involved respecting regional peace, unity and independence of countries, as well as boosting ties in accordance with the UN, Arab and international protocols. The declaration included the GCC states, Egypt and Syria.
1997 -- National Assembly discussed grilling of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Nasser Al-Roudhan presented by MPs Ahmad Al-Mulaifi, Sami Al-Munees and Mushari Al-Osaimi on not taking serious measures to execute vital laws and failing to protect the country's budget.
2000 -- The State of Kuwait won 15 gold, silver, and bronze medals during its participation in the sixth Cairo Radio and Television Festival. Kuwait ranked second after Egypt in the festival.
2002 -- The State of Kuwait signed an MoU with South Africa on defense cooperation.
2003 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued Amiri decree on postponing Municipal Council elections for a period not exceeding one year from the date of the issuing of the draft decree or the issuing of a new municipal law, whichever comes first, according to law number 15 for the year 1972 on the municipality.
2003 -- Kuwait recorded the highest fresh water consumption rate with 314 million gallons.
2010 -- Former Kuwaiti MP Humoud Al-Jabbri died at the age of 68.
2010 -- Kuwaiti medical team at armed forces' Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital succeeded in a rare gastric bypass surgery that does not involve the dissection of the stomach. The operation was considered the first of its kind in the Middle East, fourth on a global scale.
2012 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) provided loans worth between USD 67 to 70 to Uganda, Ethiopia, Senegal, Kenya and Lesotho, during His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's attendance to the 19th African Union (AU) Summit.
2013 -- Kuwaiti Embassy in Jordan began campaign to support 1,250 needy Jordanian families.
2013 -- Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) announced the discovery of an oil and natural gas well in Kabd area west of Kuwait.
2017 -- Kuwaiti Olympic champion Ahmad Al-Mutairi won gold medal for 100 meters wheelchair racing in London's World Para Athletics Championships. (end) ag
