UN worried about military operations on civilians in Syria

NEW YORK, July 13 (KUNA) -- The UN Friday voiced concern over military operations against civilians in different areas in Syria, after scores of civilians were killed in air raids in eastern suburbs of Deir Al-Zour.
The air raids, which have been ongoing for three days now, on Idleb and Latakia killed many people including a women and two children, UN Secretary General deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told daily press briefing.
He noted children were killed in the southwestern province of Deraa.
Haq said although tens of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) returned to their homes, estimates showed more than 234,000 people were still displaced in southwestern Syria.
He added around 160,000 people in Quneitera have limited access to humanitarian supplies.
The UN announced last Monday readiness to honor Syrian government's request to provide aid for people in southern Syria, which has been witnessing military operations forcing displacement of over 320,000 civilians. (end) asf.bs
