PARIS, July 12 (KUNA) -- Public Authority for Industry chief Abdulkarim Taqi signed the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Thursday aligning Kuwait with another 101 nations in relation to the measurement of goods and standards.
The deal's ratification came after Kuwait joined the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) as an associate member state back in late March.
The intergovernmental organization, based in Sevres, France, is dedicated to providing consensus on matters related to measurement science and measurement standards aimed at easing bilateral trade.
Kuwait joins a total list of 59 member states and 42 associate members, which already several other Arab countries, the likes of members Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Egypt alongside associate members like Oman and Qatar.
Shortly after meeting BIPM Director Martin Milton in Paris, the Kuwaiti official told KUNA that the main goal of signing the agreement is to ensure fairness in bilateral commercial transactions.
Transactions cannot be carried out without the use of measurements in regards to size, weight or volume, he explained.
This necessitates the adoption of internationally-applied measurement units, which would in turn decrease the emergence of technical obstacles, ease the flow of goods between countries and improve the quality of products and industrial processes, he said. (end)
