AMMAN, July 8 (KUNA) -- Jordanian and Palestinian officials warned on Sunday against the continued absence of real horizons regarding ending the Israeli occupation.
They stressed the importance of effective and immediate international efforts to break the "political stalemate," Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
This came during a meeting held between Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi and secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Saeb Erekat, the statement added.
The meeting was held within the framework of continued coordination in implementation of directives of the two countries' leaders, it noted.
The two officials condemned unilateral Israeli steps, topped with building settlements and confiscating lands, aiming to change facts on ground and undermine the two-state solution, the statement said.
The statement referred to positions of Jordan and Palestine towards ending the conflict and achieving peace represented in meeting legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, mainly freedom and setting up an independent state based the lines of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
They stressed the importance of continued support and services by United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), calling for providing required finance to the agency.
Al-Safadi briefed Erekat on talks held by King Abdullah II of Jordan in Washington last month, during which he reiterated that the Palestinian cause is a central one and that resolving it on the two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace and stability in the region, according to the statement.
