RAMALLAH, July 4 (KUNA) -- At least 35 Palestinians were injured by the Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday when they protested against the demolition of a Bedouin village near the occupied East Jerusalem and the forcible transfer of the entire community.
Palestine Red Crescent said in a statement that its medical teams treated the wounded at field clinics, adding that the events took place at the Khan al-Ahmar village.
Salah al-Khawaja, a member of the popular resistance movement, told KUNA that the Israeli bulldozers began to demolish the village and attacked activists who tried to stand against these acts.
He added that the Israeli forces assaulted several Palestinians, wounding some of them, and detained nine others, including two women.
Tens of activists have been existing at the village for two weeks, with the aim of facing the Israeli attempts aiming to destroy the community whose residents are 180.
The village falls in Area C of the occupied West Bank, which is under total Israeli administrative and military control.
Israel's supreme court issued a ruling last May on the demolition of Al-Khan Al-Ahmar community, including the only school which serves about 170 pupils.
Palestinians said that Israel seeks to displace forcibly residents of the Bedouin communities in the area so as to complete its settlement plan, which separates Jerusalem from the West Bank. (end)
