MOSCOW, July 1 (KUNA) -- Russian forces defeated an unmanned aerial vehicle attack on Hmeimim Air base located near Latakiyah in Syria, Russian military sources said Sunday.
Sources at Hmeimim Air base said that Russian Military personnel foiled the attack, all small guided aircraft were shot down, Novosti news agency said in a statement.
The attack resulted in no casualties and no material damage, the sources confirmed.
On January 6, the base witnessed a heavy attack resulted in bringing down 13 flying objects carrying timed bombs aimed at detonating the base, which had been fired by gunmen in Idlib.
Hmeimim Air Base is a Syrian airbase currently operated by Russia and shares some airfield facilities with Bassel Al-Assad International Airport.
The legal status of the base is regulated by a treaty Russia and Syria signed in August 2015.
At the end of 2017, Russia said it had decided to turn the Hmeimim base into a component of its permanent military contingent stationed in Syria.(end)
