Britain's Prince William meets Israeli PM on historic Mideast tour

RAMALLAH, June 26 (KUNA) -- Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has met with Britain's Prince William in Jerusalem during the first visit by a British royal to the holy city, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.
The heir to the British throne, fresh off a visit to Jordan, is also expected to meet with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, before an encounter with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, the media report said.
Meanwhile, Palestinian authorities have welcomed Prince William's visit with much fanfare, approving of his comments over Jerusalem in which he referred to it as an "occupied city." The Palestinians have also expressed their appreciation of Britain's position on Jerusalem, in which it has disagreed with the US decision to relocate its embassy to the holy city. "We highly appreciate Britain's position which proves that the US's decision over Jerusalem was in contravention of international law and UN conventions," the Palestinian foreign ministry said in a statement.
