Egypt asks Interpol to arrest Libyans accused of abducting Egyptians

CAIRO, June 24 (KUNA) -- Egyptian public prosecutor Nabil Sadeq issued on Sunday arrest warrants to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) against three "terrorist" Libyans belonging to the so-called Islamic State.
Sadeq accused the three Libyans of conspiring and taking part in kidnapping Egyptian workers in Libya, and demanded ransom from their relatives to release them.
The state security prosecution conducted investigations revealing that an Egyptian man and three Libyans were planning to abduct some Egyptian workers and asked for ransom in favor of the IS, Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
Investigating Egyptian accused Mohammad Rajab, the prosecution revealed that he used to travel to Libya for work, and had links to some elements of IS after the outbreak of Libyan incidents.
After he had returned to Egypt, he cooperated with the three Libyans namely Emad Al-Din, Eyiad and Meftah Al-Warfaly to collect information about Egyptians working in Libya in order to abduct them, in collaboration with the IS, and get ransom from their relatives, the agency said.
In 2017, Rajab provided the IS with information about some Egyptians in Libya, and the IS elements managed to kidnap them according to this information.
They allowed the abductees to contact their families over the telephone, it added, noting that Rajab received the wanted sums for releasing them.
The agency said the state security prosecution is conducting investigations regarding this case, and will issue relevant statements. (end) rg.hm
