BRUSSELS, June 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait and Luxembourg are two small countries but they are playing an active role for the promotion of global peace and stability, according to Kuwait's ambassador to the EU, NATO, Belgium and Luxembourg, Jasem Al-Budaiwi. Speaking to the Kuwait news agency, KUNA, today Al Budaiwi said he had the honour to meet with the Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg on Saturday during the reception to celebrate the country's national day .
The Kuwaiti ambassador conveyed to the Grand Duke, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Amir's congratulations and best wishes for Luxembourg for more prosperity and welfare.
Al Budaiwi also participated in a luncheon hosted by Luxembourg's Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn yesterday and conveyed to him Peputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah's best wishes and congratulations to him.
"Kuwait and Luxembourg have many issues in common. Both are small countries working very actively in their region for international peace and stability," Al-Budaiwi told KUNA, noting that Kuwait is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council while Luxembourg is a member of the European Union.
"Our small size does not prevent us from playing an active and important role in the international arena. We both enjoy excellent relationship bilaterally as well as the royal families of the two countries," he said. Al-Budaiwi said Kuwait is trying to boost economic relationship, and cooperate with Luxembourg to learn from their experience in the financial sector. "We also look into the opportunity to expand our sovereign funds within the system and economy of Luxembourg," he said adding that that Luxembourg is the second most important financial hub in the world after the US. Asselborn was in Kuwait last February to take part in the anti-IS coalition ministerial meeting and in the rebuilding of Iraq conference. (end) nk.rk
