"Daesh" chief killed in coalition strike West Iraq

BAGHDAD, June 23 (KUNA) -- Coalition military aircraft have raided hideout of a chief of the notorious "Islamic State" organization, resulting in his death.
The Iraqi Information Security Center said in a statement on Saturday that the IS (Daesh) chief, known by his no de guerre "Al-Jazira Wali," was killed in the air strike that hit his hideout in Al-Akashat in western Al-Anbar province.
His killing brought to end his "terrorist threats as he used to command criminal operations in West Iraq," the center said.
Earlier today, it reported that 45 IS members including ranking ones were killed in a raid on Syrian territories.
The IS or Daesh had received crushing blows from attacking Iraqi and Syrian forces, losing much of the ground the militants used to hold, namely Mosul where the Iraqi government forces finished off their influence. However, the extremists have apparently remained in some pockets on Iraqi and Syrian territories. (end) ak.rk
