US praises' Ukraine's vote to create anti-corruption court

WASHINGTON, June 20 (KUNA) -- The United States praised Ukraine's vote to establish anti-corruption court on Wednesday, calling it "an important step" for the country's future.
In a statement released by the State Department, the US said it was pleased with the move by Ukraine's parliament to pass "important piece of legislation " that establishes an independent court.
"With this move, Ukraine took an important step towards achieving the European future its people demanded during the Revolution of Dignity," State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said.
The US also welcomed a statement by the International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde, who called on Ukrainian lawmakers to amend the law to guarantee the court's effectiveness.
"These steps will ensure the court is able to help roll back the corruption that threatens Ukraine's national security, prosperity, and democratic development," Nauert said. (end) hy.mb
