Trump says he will sign order to keep immigrant families together

WASHINGTON, June 20 (KUNA) -- Under enormous political pressure, US President Donald Trump backed away on Wednesday from his promise in recent days to continue the Trump administration policy of separating children from parents who enter the US illegally at the southern border.
During a White House meeting with a group of senators and Cabinet members, Trump said he would sign an executive order today to end family separations.
"We're going to be signing an executive order in a little while ... We've got to be keeping families together," Trump said.
House Republican leaders earlier in the day promised to bring broader immigration legislation up for votes on Thursday in an attempt to resolve the crisis of family separations at the US-Mexico border.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said he remains hopeful that the House will pass a bill that would include provisions aimed at ending the parent-child separations that have resulted from a Trump administration "zero tolerance" policy. (end) rm.mb
