KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (KUNA) -- Malaysians are returning to their villages to celebrate Eid al-Fitr holiday, or 'Balik Kampung'.
That would be the theme during the holy month of Ramadan, where most shopping malls and well-known markets decorate their fronts and indoors with Malaysian-design models of these village houses, highlighting their symbolic significance, especially the wooden seats in the guest lounge, the bamboo stands for cooking, the light burners decorating the patio, food covers made of palm leaves, and old bicycling.
Balik Kampung is the Malay term for the massive exodus during festive seasons such as Eid al-Fitr and Chinese New Year in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. During this time, migrants or migrant workers return to their hometowns or villages. (end) aq.lr
