Russia, UAE calls for international anti-terrorism coalition

MOSCOW, June 1 (KUNA) -- Russia and the United Arab Emirates on Friday called for establishing an international alliance to confront terrorism and fanaticism.
The two countries affirmed their joint "strategic partnership" in a statement issued after talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin with the visiting Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
Hazards posed by the international terrorism and its proliferation against states' security warrant collective action by the international community; such an action must be free of double standards and selectivity and must be based on the international law and charter of the United Nations, they said in the joint statement.
The two sides have agreed on coordinating efforts, swapping expertise and information in the field of confronting terrorism and preventing it from spreading at the regional and international levels.
Russia and the UAE will seek to ensure cyber security and prevent usage of digital means for promoting the ideology extremism.
At the bilateral level, Moscow and Abu Dhabi agreed on strategic cooperation in the realms of oil and gas and pledged to ensure stability of the international markets, with consideration to interests of the crude oil producers and consumers.
The joint declaration urged for utilizing natural gas as a product of economic feasibility and more friendly to the environment than other energy products, pledging to minimize greenhouse emissions according to the Paris treaty on the climate.
They have also pledged to cooperate at the level of "peaceful energy" and conduct researches for building reactors.
Moreover, they vowed to promote political cooperation toward regional and international issues, as well as within the framework of the strategic dialogue between Russia and the GCC countries and the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum.
Moscow and Abu Dhabi affirmed necessity of boosting role of the United Nations and the Security Council and activating communications between the two countries' authorities at various levels.
They expressed determination to enhance defense cooperation and stressed on the necessity to clear the Middle East of nuclear arms.
Also in this vein, President Putin described the UAE as a robust partner for Russia in the Middle East noting that the trade exchanges between the two countries rose 31 percent last year and 70 percent in the first quarter of the current year.
