KUWAIT, May 26 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait, living up to its status as a 'Humanitarian Center', has been contributing to charitable work during Holy Month of Ramadan.
In Tunisia, Marhamah Society announced last Tuesday the launch of a charity campaign, in collaboration with Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Charity.
The campaign includes distribution of more than 5,000 food baskets to families in need throughout most of Tunisian provinces, in addition to providing about 600 daily Iftar meals (breakfast) throughout the month of Ramadan in several areas of Tunisia.
In a statement to KUNA, Kuwait's Ambassador to Tunisia Ali Al-Thifeeri said the cost of the charity campaign in amounted to KD 50,000.
Al-Thifeeri added that Kuwait's humanitarian and charity initiatives are fundamental pillar of its overall policy.
For his part, an official in Marhamah society Mohsin Al-Jindobi thanked the State of Kuwait for its charitable and humanitarian work in the region, stressing that Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Charity, Zakat House and the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Tunisia contributed to the success of this campaign.
Kuwait Ambassador to Tanzania Jassem Al-Najem also launched an Iftar campaign, supervised by Kuwait Zakat (Alms) House and Public Awqaf (Endowment) Foundation.
He said in a statement that 500 Iftar meals - including rice, sugar, flour and oil - were distributed in Dar es Salaam.
He added that Kuwait embassy was keen on reaching remote areas to deliver Iftar meals for Muslims.
In Iraq, Kuwait-based International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) distributed aid for displaced families who just returned to their homes in Mosul.
Ahmad Al-Heeti, chairman of Iraq's Medical Society, IICO's local partner, told KUNA 330 food baskets on the returning families in Al-Shifaa neighborhood.
The distribution of the food baskets took place under supervision of Iraqi Premiership and Kuwait Embassy to Iraq, he noted. (end) kt.bs
