US backs findings in Malaysian plane crash, holds Russia accountable

WASHINGTON, May 25 (KUNA) -- The US said Thursday that it has "complete confidence" in the findings of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) presented by the Dutch Public Prosecutor on Malaysia Airline Flight MH17, said a State Department memo.
The missile launcher used to shoot down the plane originated from the 53rd Anti-aircraft Brigade of Russia, stationed in Kursk.
"We recall the UN Security Council's demand that 'those responsible... be held to account and that all States cooperate fully with efforts to establish accountability,' said the statement.
"It is time for Russia to cease its lies and account for its role in the shoot down." The US remains confident in the Dutch criminal justice system to prosecute those responsible, it added. (end) ak.gta
