Pompeo, Japanese FM discuss North Korea, trade

WASHINGTON, May 24 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono discussed trade and the denuclearization of North Korea, the State Department confirmed late Wednesday.
Pompeo met his Japanese counterpart reaffirmed "the shared goal of achieving the comprehensive, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea," according to State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert.
Japan, South Korea, and the US are keeping close trilateral cooperation, particularly on pressuring North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons.
In addition to discussing regional and global concerns, the ministers also committed to a "free and open Indo-Pacific and enhancing fair and reciprocal bilateral trade."(end) hy.gta
