Trump extends emergency funds to Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, May 24 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump announced additional disaster assistance funding would be available to Puerto Rico eight months after powerful Hurricane Maria crippled the island.
Trump authorized an extension of increased Federal funding for certain emergency protective measures under the Public Assistance program.
Federal funding for emergency power restoration is extended for 90 days, while funding for emergency temporary power support and Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power (STEP) is extended for 120 days, according to the White House.
The latest reports show at least 14,500 Puerto Ricans are still without power more than eight months after Hurricane Maria hit, knocking out much of the aging infrastructure. Hurricane Season is set to resume in 10 days. (end) hy.gta
