By Muntaha Al-Fadhli KUWAIT, May 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAFR) and Environment Public Authority (EPA) have co-signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conserve a protected area in the north of the country.
The deal aims to set in motion a strategy for a re-greening and landscape restoration project in Al-Khuwaisat area, PAAFR's Director General Sheikh Mohammad Yousef Al-Sabah told KUNA on Wednesday.
He pointed out that PAAFR would take the necessary measures to conserve wildlife and the environment in the picturesque area by sending a team of specialists to the site, which is home to more than 250,000 bird species and a vast array of plants.
Meanwhile, EPA's Chairman and Director General Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah hailed the deal as an effective step towards keeping Kuwait's protected areas intact.
He revealed that there are some 15 protected areas in Kuwait, all of which conserve biodiversity and are in need of proper safeguards. (end) mf.nam
