Iraq receives 18 pledges of Iraq's reconstruction conf.

BAGHDAD, May 23 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi National Team to follow up on Kuwait's Conference pledges announced that it had received 18 official pledges to implement the commitments of the conference held last February. The head of the team, Secretary-General of the Iraqi Council of Ministers Mehdi Al-Alak said Wednesday that the total international commitments that have been officially received by Iraq through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reached 18 pledges, out of 47 commitments announced during the conference.
He noted that the team will hold at the end of May an expanded meeting with ambassadors of donor countries and international civil society organizations, to indicate the nature of pledges and funding channels.
He stressed the importance of finding a unified vision to oversee the reconstruction projects, and coordinate efforts between the relevant bodies to increase efficiency.
The countries and organizations participating in the conference have pledged to give Iraq 30 billion dollars in the form of loans and investments to support reconstruction projects after the war on the so-called Islamic State (IS).(end) ahh.haq
