Army eliminates 3 PKK gunmen SE Turkey - agency

ISTANBUL, May 20 (KUNA) -- At least three elements of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have been "neutralized" during a counterterrorism operation southeastern Turkey, security sources said Sunday.
Anadolu Agency quoted the sources as saying that one PKK terrorist was captured, while two others were killed during the operation in the Semdinli district of Hakkari province. The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, noted that the operation is ongoing.
Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either killed, captured or surrendered.
Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, the PKK has waged a wide-ranging terror campaign against the Turkish state since the mid-1980s, in which an estimated 40,000 people have been killed. (end) ta.lr
