S. Arabia intercepts Houthi-launched ballistic missile

RIYADH, May 15 (KUNA) -- The Saudi-led Arab coalition announced Tuesday that Saudi Arabian air defense forces have shot down a missile launched by the Yemen-based Houthi militias towards the town of Jazan.
"A missile was fired Tuesday at 12:40 p.m. (local time) by Iran-allied Houthi militias from Sa'adah in Yemen towards the Kingdom," said the Saudi-led coalition spokesperson, Turki Al-Maliki.
The Saudi Arabian Patriot anti-missile defense systems were activated and intercepted the missile that was directed towards civilian areas of Jazan, said al Maliki. He pointed out that "this hostile action carried out by the Houthis has proven Iran's continued involvement in backing this armed group with qualitative capabilities in a clear and explicit defiance of the UN resolutions (2216) and (2231) to threaten security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the regional and international security." He stressed that "launching ballistic missiles towards densely populated cities and villages runs counter to the international humanitarian law." (end) mdm.nhq
