MWL denounces attack on churches in Indonesia

JEDDAH, May 13 (KUNA) -- Muslim World League (MWL) condemned the terrorist act which targeted Sunday Mass congregations in three churches in Indonesia's second largest city, Surabaya, resulting in killing and injuring scores of people.
In a statement, MWL Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Al-Issa said that such "indescribable heinous crime can not be described within Islamic Sharia law as normal, namely the targeting of innocent people in a place of worship." Al-Issa added that this terrorist attack is against all principles and values, and the targeting of innocent people is a failed barbaric attempt to bring instability and insecurity in safe societies.
MWL is in full solidarity with the victims and the Indonesian authorities, Al-Issa added.
Earlier, suicide bombers struck three different churches in Surabaya, killing at least 11 people and injuring 40 others, local police said.
Spokesperson for the country's intelligence agency Wawan Purwanto said the bombings are suspected to have been carried out by the IS-inspired group 'Jemaah Ansharut Daulah.' (end) nh.mb
