JEDDAH, May 13 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the terrorist act which targeted Sunday Mass congregations in three churches in Indonesia's second largest city, Surabaya, killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens.
In a press release, OIC Secretary General, Yousef Al-Othaimeen, reaffirmed principled position that violence and terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic group.
Violent extremism and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations including violence against civilians and suicide attacks are against the holy principles of Islam and affront to the religious diversity of Indonesian society.
The Secretary General further expressed solidarity with the people of Indonesia, offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this vicious act, and wished quick recovery to the wounded.
Earlier, suicide bombers struck three different churches in Surabaya, killing at least 11 people and injuring scores more, local police said.
Spokesperson for the country's intelligence agency Wawan Purwanto said the bombings are suspected to have been carried out by the IS-inspired group 'Jemaah Ansharut Daulah'.
The bombings are the deadliest in Indonesia since 2005. (end)
