Polling stations of municipal elections close across Kuwait
KUWAIT, May 12 (KUNA) -- The General Department for Elections Affairs announced on Saturday that polling stations of elections of the 12 legislative term of the Municipal Council closed this evening to start counting votes.
Kuwaiti male and female voters headed to ballot boxes Saturday morning to select 10 members from all candidates for the new council.
The elections were held in accordance with the lists of 2017 pertaining to the National Assembly polls.
Voters were distributed to 10 constituencies. All eligible voters reached 519,636, including 248,590 males and 271,577 females.
The candidates are distributed among the 10 constituencies as following: Four in the first, four in the second, 13 in the third and 17 in the fourth. Five candidates have been registered for the fifth, seven in the sixth, three including a single woman in the seventh, nine in the eighth, six in the ninth and five in the 10th.
The voting process was held at 102 schools; 51 for males and the same number for females.
Decree No. 240 was issued on October 10, 2017 to dissolve the Municipal Council. Decree No. 241 of 2017 was issued to form an interim caretaker body to assume the duties of the dissolved council that will end its work as soon as the new council is elected. (pickup previous)
