Kuwait to take part in CCPCJ 27th session

VIENNA, May 11 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti delegation will participate in the 27th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) due to take place on May 14-18.
The delegation, led by the country's representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna Sadeq Maarafi, includes senior officials of the ministries of justice and interior.
This will be the first time for Kuwait to take part in a CCPCJ event since the commission was founded in 1992. In last April, Kuwait was elected to the CCPCJ executive board for a three-year term starting in 2019.
The five-day session gathered nearly 1,000 senior government officials, law experts and academics as well as representatives of the civil society in the member states of the commission.
They are scheduled to discuss the subject of "Criminal justice responses to prevent and counter cybercrime in all its forms, including through the strengthening of cooperation at the national and international levels." The agenda also includes: strategic management, budgetary and administrative question; integration and coordination of efforts by UNODC (the UN Office on Drugs and Crime) and by member states in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice; use and application of UN standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice; and the world crime trends and emerging issues.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will open the meeting on Monday and then UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov will deliver a keynote speech. (end) amg.gb
