NEW YORK, May 10 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait, late Wednesday, expressed its support to regional organizations' role in safeguarding peace in the African continent and elsewhere.
This statement came during Kuwait's participation in the annual meeting for heads of peacekeeping forces at the UNSC. Speaking to the meeting, acting charge d'affairs of the Kuwaiti permanent mission to the UN headquarters in New York, advisor Talal Al-Fassam commended the role played by peacekeeping forces despite the various challenges facing troops.
It is very important to support those who eager to protect peace all around the globe, said Al-Fassam who indicated that the increasing number of peacekeeping casualties in the last five years required a stern stance to end the targeting of such forces.
He affirmed that peacekeeping forces have the difficult task of making sure stability continues in certain countries and regions, adding that this quest is fully supported by the UN General Assembly and UNSC.
Al-Fassam stressed that host countries and local security forces must cooperate with peacekeeping troops to ensure the success of peace missions. (end) asf.gta
