Security Council praises Bangladeshi efforts for hosting the Rohingya

NEW YORK, April 30 (KUNA) -- UN Security Council members met with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday as part of an official visit headed by Kuwait, United Kingdom and Republic of Peru to Bangladesh and Myanmar, and to reassess conditions of the Rohingya's Muslims.
In a statement, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi praised the Bangladeshi government for their efforts and hospitality to Rohingya's Muslims, stating that the Security Council will keep supporting the Bangladeshi efforts in this regard.
Al-Otaibi also mentioned, "there are difficulties in negotiations between Bangladesh and Myanmar regarding the refugees return plan, but it is very important to create a suitable conditions to the refugees to get back to their homeland freely." For her part, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called on the Security Council to push Myanmar for the return of hundred thousands of Rohingya's Muslims who escaped from Myanmar, adding the Security Council must keep pushing on "Myanmar's government to bring back their citizens." Last January Myanmar and Bangladesh agreed to continue on the refugees return plan within two years, but dispute remains on the execution part of plan.
Last November, the Security Council called on Myanmar to guarantee not to use military force on the refugees and allow them to return freely to their homeland and to treat all citizens' rights equally.
UN members also demonstrated in a press conference the risks related to the rainy season and how it may cause natural disasters that lead to challenges in providing shelters and health aids. (end) asf.aa
