Suicide attack kills 12 civilians, wounds 8 NATO troops in S. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, April 30 (KUNA) -- At least 12 civilians were killed and eight NATO troops wounded in a suicide attack on a foreign force convoy in Afghanistanآ’s southern Kandahar province on Monday.
The NATOآ’s Resolute Support (RS) said its eight service members were wounded in the vehicle-borne improvised explosion in a populated area in Daman district.
Several Afghan uniform police and Afghan civilians, including an apparent group of children, were either killed or wounded in the blast, the RS mission said in a statement.
According to Afghan security forces, the suicide blast took place in the Abdullah Karez area of Daman district in Kandahar. Eight Romanian troops were wounded in the bombing, which left 11 civilians dead where nine others including two policemen were injured in the bombing.
The wounded service members, who are all in stable condition, were taken to Kandahar Airfield's hospital for treatment.
The Romanian Defense Ministry also confirmed its eight soldiers were injured during a mission in Afghanistan.
The incident came hours after twin suicide attacks killed 25 people, including six journalists, and wounded 45 others in the assault.
No group has so far claimed responsibility of the attack but Taliban rebels have announced their "spring offensive" across Afghanistan against foreign and local security forces. (end) sbk.mt
