WASHINGTON, April 26 (KUNA) -- The US Senate confirmed on Thursday the Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo as secretary of state to succeed Rex Tillerson, who last month was removed from the nation's top diplomatic post by President Donald Trump.
Pompeo, 54yrs, was expected to be sworn in quickly so he could depart for a NATO meeting in Brussels.
It was unclear last week if Pompeo would be confirmed, but in the end, five Democrats joined the majority-Republicans in the Senate to ensure his confirmation. (end)
