Check post attack kills 14 ANA soldiers in N. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, April 26 (KUNA) -- At least 14 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in an attack on the security check post by Taliban rebels in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province, said official on Thursday.
The district chief in the Kunduz, Nasruddin Nazari told media that Taliban stormed ANA soldiers check post in the Qurlaq village in the Dasht-i-Archi district.
He confirmed that 14 ANA soldiers had been killed and four others injured in the attack.
The Taliban torched ANA vehicle and took weapons and ammunition with them, he added.
The attackers managed to flee the area when reinforcement reached to the site of attack. Director of the civil hospital, Jamil Frotan also confirmed receiving bodies of 14 ANA soldiers.
According to local media, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the responsibility of the attack saying that scores of security personnel were killed in the attack.
Earlier on Tuesday, at least nine policemen and 12 Taliban rebels were killed during two separate clashes in Afghanistan's southern Ghazni and western Farah provinces.
The attack came at a time when the Afghan authorities are tasked to register up to 14 million adults at more than 7,000 polling centers for the parliamentary and district council elections scheduled for October 20. (end) sbk.sd
