RABAT, April 25 (KUNA) -- President of the Arab Parliament Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salmi on Wednesday underlined the importance of economic partnership with Africa in addressing the challenges facing both regions.
The parliamentary diplomacy can play a pivotal role in cementing the economic partnership and solving the issues of common concern, he said in an address to the opening session of the Arab-African parliamentary forum.
The gathering, organized by the Moroccan House of Councillors (the upper house of parliament), gathered representatives of the senates and Shura councils of the Arab and African countries.
Al-Salmi applauded the growing relationship between the Arab Parliament on one hand, and the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the African Parliamentary Union (APU) and the national legislatures of the African countries, on the other.
"This exemplary relationship can drive cooperation in other areas, notably the economic integration between the Arab and African regions," he added, calling for more exchanges between parliamentarians from both sides.
The current forum, part of the agenda of the working group of the association of Arab-African Shura councils and senates, aims to enhance parliamentary dialogue on strategic issues, including the food security, economic development and women empowerment. (end) mrn.gb
