Macron says Iran "shall never possess any nuclear weapons"

WASHINGTON, April 25 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed Wednesday that the terrorist threat "is even more dangerous when it is combined with the nuclear proliferation threat." In his address to the joint session of Congress, Macron stressed "we must, therefore, be stricter than ever with countries seeking to acquire the nuclear bomb." On Iran, Macron affirmed "our objective is clear; Iran shall never possess any nuclear weapons. Not now, not in five years, not in 10 years, never." As for the Iran nuclear deal, Macron stressed "France will not leave the JCPOA because we signed it." He said "we signed it at the initiative of the United States. We signed it, both the United States and France. That is why we cannot say we should get rid of it like that." He added "it is true to say that this agreement may not address all concerns and very important concerns. This is true. But we should not abandon without having something substantial and more substantial instead; that's my position." "Your president and your Congress will have to take in the current days and weeks its own responsibilities regarding this issue," he remarked.
Macron affirmed that what he wants to do "and what we decided together with your president, is that we can work on a more comprehensive deal addressing all of his concerns." (Pickup previous) si.mb
