KUWAIT, April 25 (KUNA) -- The National Library of Kuwait on Wednesday hosted a seminar, co-organized with the US embassy, on the theme of empowering women in innovation and creativity, marking the World Intellectual Property Day, April 26.
This world occasion contributes to reviving efforts to reinforce principles of protecting and preserving intellectual property rights (IPR), Library Director Dr. Kamel Al-Abduljaleel, told the event.
This can be achieved through disseminating knowledge and awareness on the intellectual property, creating a favorable environment for enforcing the relevant local laws, and commitment to the international conventions, Al-Abduljaleel added.
The event reflects that Kuwait recognizes the importance of IPR and is taking tangible steps to improve its system, said US ambassador to Kuwait Lawrence R. Silverman.
"This framework can create a regionally competitive ecosystem that attracts foreign investment and drives the development of a thriving innovative and creative economy in Kuwait," he told the function.
Awareness of IPR will serve Kuwait's Vision 2035 which is premised on economic diversification, innovation and foreign investment, the US envoy noted.
Silverman expressed "appreciation to the National Library of Kuwait and the Ministry of Information for collaborating with us to support World Intellectual Property Day, and for our cooperation throughout the year." When there is confidence in the patent system, inventors are encouraged to innovate, investments are made, jobs are created, and science and technology advance, he stressed. (end) hjb.amh.msa
