S. Korea-US summit eyed before Kim-Trump meeting

TOKYO, April 25 (KUNA) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump plan to hold a meeting in mid-May before the US-North Korea summit, Seoul's public broadcaster KBS reported Wednesday.
Chief presidential secretary for public relations Yoon Young-chan told reporters in Seoul that National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong and his US counterpart John Bolton discussed the matter on Tuesday in Washington.
The two officials held discussions for nearly an hour on preparations for the inter-Korean summit and ways to boost joint cooperation for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, according to Yoon.
During the meeting, Chung and Bolton agreed that the two presidents will discuss the results of the inter-Korean summit over the phone shortly after the talks end on Friday.
Trump has said he will likely hold talks with Kim in May or early June. If realized, it will mark the first-ever summit between the US and North Korea. (end) mk.tg
