Britain vows to help lift Sudan from terrorism list

KHARTOUM, April 24 (KUNA) -- Britain promised on Tuesday that it will help lift Sudan's name from the US terrorism list.
Britain will inform the US that Sudan is cooperative in the fight against terrorism for lifting its name from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, Neil Wigan, Director of the African Department at the British Foreign Office, told a news conference.
This came at the conclusion of the five-day Sudan-Britain strategic dialogue.
He, however, referred that the decision would be an American option.
Wigan said the two sides discussed "a number of important issues, mainly security and human rights.
He stressed that the two sides agreed to complete the joint action in combating terrorism and violent extremism.
Meanwhile, Sudan's Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Abdulghani Al-Naeim told the same conference that the current session included various issues, mainly military, security, economic and cultural.
He has underlined that the Sudan-UK Strategic Partnership has reached the foundation stage.
Although the US has lifted unilateral economic sanctions on Sudan, it still ranks it as a state sponsoring terrorism. (end) mmm.hm
