Palestinian groups appeal for wages disbursement for public servants

GAZA, April 24 (KUNA) -- More than 100 Palestinian human rights and local groups signed a petition Tuesday in Gaza Strip, the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem calling for disbursement of wages for public servants and lifting the Israeli siege on the strip.
A network combining the Palestinian groups said in a statement the petition urged Palestinian President Hamoud Abbas to immediatley pay wages of public servants to preserve social fabric.
It said the public servants were the victims of political conflicts, which thus contributed to further deterioration of their economic and social conditions.
Failure to disburse salaries, it said, was coupled with the 11-year-old Israeli siege on Gaza, political division, inability of the Palestinian conciliation government to run Gaza Strip as well as cut of funding to UNRWA.
It condemned the international community's failure to end the suffering of the people in Gaza Strip who have been living under Israeli blockade for years.
It also called on the international community and UN agencies to provide urgently-needed aid in Gaza. (end) wab.bs
