KUWAIT, April 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Hind Al-Sabeeh on Tuesday underlined the importance of strategic water conservation programmes and increasing public awareness on the matter, particularly amongst the youth.
Water shortage presents a "major challenge" to the surrounding Arabian Gulf states according to most global indices, she told a gathering in Kuwait of the region's youth organized by the Kuwait Water Association.
Minister Al-Sabeeh, also State Minister for Economic Affairs, said the region is located in one of the regions of the globe affected with severe physical water scarcity based on UN statistics.
This increases our responsibility to carry out research and policy-based decisions in collaboration with regional and global organisations dedicated to the goal, she said.
The calls were mirrored by Saleh Al-Mezaini, Chairman of Kuwait Water Association, a non-government body dedicated to carrying out "research on integrated management solutions for water resources on the domestic level." (end) mf.sd
