Paris attacks defendant found guilty of attempting murder in Belgium

BRUSSELS, April 23 (KUNA) -- A Belgian court on Monday has found Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam guilty of attempted terrorist murder of police during a shootout with police in Brussels in 2016.
His accomplice in the attack Sofien Ayari, was also found guilty.
Prosecutors are seeking a 20-year jail sentence on charges of attempted murder and possession of illegal arms in a terrorist context. The court is expected to announce the sentence later.
Abdeslam is the sole surviving suspect of the Paris terrorist attacks in November 2015. He did not attend the court in Brussels today but remains in his jail cell outside Paris where he is awaiting trial in connection with the Paris attacks. (end) nk.ss
