Trump says U.S. has "given up nothing" in North Korea talks

WASHINGTON, April 22 (KUNA) - U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed Sunday that the U.S. has "given up nothing" in negotiations with North Korea, while Pyongyang has agreed to "denuclearization." Trump attacked in a tweet an NBC host who stated that "we have given up so much in our negotiations with North Korea, and they have given up nothing." The host said that North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un "seems to be giving very little but making it seem like he's giving a lot," and that "there's not many preconditions the United States is asking for." Trump responded saying "wow, we haven't given up anything and they have agreed to denuclearization (so great for World), site closure, and no more testing!" He stressed "we are a long way from conclusion on North Korea, maybe things will work out, and maybe they won't - only time will tell....But the work I am doing now should have been done a long time ago!" North Korea had announced that it will shut down its nuclear site and freeze its nuclear and ballistic missile tests and that the suspension would take effect as of Saturday, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The announcement follows a meeting between CIA chief and Secretary of State Nominee Mike Pompeo and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un in North Korea last week.
It is seen as a goodwill gesture ahead of the summit meeting between Trump and North Korean leader, due in the coming weeks, to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. (end) si
