KUWAIT, April 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti National Assembly (parliament) Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim on Sunday rejected any bid to undermine Kuwait's sovereignty, dignity and reputation by linking it to anomalous and bizarre incidents.
Speaking to reporters at the assembly, the speaker emphasized that "the unjustified escalation by the Philippine side would be responded by the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry." "I'd like to stress that everything that could undermine Kuwait's sovereignty, dignity and reputation by linking the country to anomalous and bizarre incidents, as well as the unprovoked escalation by the Philippine side, will be addressed by the Foreign Ministry," he vowed.
"As I was told by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Philippine ambassador has been summoned and informed about several matters, including the options considered by the Foreign Ministry," he said.
But, Kuwait's top lawmaker said that it was up to the minister himself to reveal such options.
He added that Kuwait would take measures soon in this regard, and the Philippine side was notified about that, noting the Philippines asked for some time to revise its statements and moves.
Al-Ghanim warned that there would be reaction to the Philippine side's unjustified and irresponsible conduct, which included breaches of international laws in general and Vienna Convention in particular.
Furthermore, the parliament is likely to address this issue during its coming session, as requested by MP Mohammad Al-Dallal. (end) fn.amh.mt
