Kuwait chief lawmaker confirms minister faces grilling on May 1

KUWAIT, April 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's top lawmaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim has disclosed that a grilling motion filed by a lawmaker against Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh is scheduled for the next session of parliament on May 1.
"Three state ministers will face grilling in the next parliament session," the National Assembly Speaker told reporters on Sunday, in reference to Al-Sabeeh, who doubles as Minister of State for Economic Affairs, as well as His Highness the Prime Minister and the oil minister.
"His Highness the Prime Minister and the minister of social affairs have the prerogative to ask for a postponement of the interpellation process, as per parliamentary procedure, "Al-Ghanim pointed out.
In the event the two aforementioned ministers do not file for an extension, the grillings will proceed in sequence, Kuwait's chief lawmaker clarified, expressing hope that the "procedures would embody true democratic spirit." He went on to quash the flurry of rumors over the imminent dissolution of parliament, stressing that "only His Highness the Amir" can make a decision of this magnitude.
Meanwhile, under Kuwaiti parliamentary rules, "any grilling can only be discussed at least eight days after the motion was filed." Earlier on Sunday, MP Saleh Ashour filed a motion to grill Al-Sabeeh over misuse of power, one week after his fellow lawmakers Omar Al-Tabtabaei and Abdulwahab Al-Babtain called for an interpellation against Minister of Oil Bkheit Al-Rashidi.
Another MP, Hamdan Al-Azmi, is requesting to question His Highness the Prime Minister during parliament's session on May 1. (Pick up previous) fn.amh.nam
