Saudi Arabia, France ink pacts worth more than USD 18 bln

PARIS, April 11 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia and France have signed a number of agreements and MoUs, worth over USD 18 billion, during the visit by the Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Mohammad bin Salman.
Hot topics of the Middle East, the Iranian nuclear deal, war in Yemen, deteriorating conditions in Syria, and the situation in Lebanon, featured high on the agenda of the Crown Prince's three-day visit to Paris.
Prince Mohammad bin Salman's visit was crowned by a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
They discussed a host of issues of mutual concern, topped the situations in Syria and Yemen, as well as means of boosting economic and cultural ties.
The Crown Prince said the Saudi-French partnership is of prime importance, amid the changes Europe and the Middle East are experiencing.
The agreements and MoUs signed during the visit cover petrochemicals, water processing, industry and digital content and other areas.
One major agreement was signed between France's Total and Saudi Arabia's to joint development of a Saudi petrochemical complex.
In addition, the Crown Prince and the French Defense Minister Florence Parly and Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian strategic cooperation between the two countries, military in particular, in line with the Saudi "2030 Vision," as well as the fight against terrorism and extremism.
During a meeting with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, Prince Mohammad bin Salman reviewed means of enhancing cultural with the UN organization. (end) mjz.msa
