KUWAIT, April 8 (KUNA) -- Kuwait International Award for Memorizing the Quran will kick off Tuesday under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Farid Emadi announced Sunday.
The award aims to strengthen the role of Kuwait leadership in the field of Quran and to promote the role of institutions and organizations of the Holy Quran, he said.
It also aims at spreading the competitive spirit among participants and encourage spending more efforts and time to increase the number of competitors.
On his part, assistant undersecretary for Quran affairs and Islamic studies at the Ministry of Awqaf Dr. Waleed Al-Shuaib said the participants belong to 79 countries, 72 of them are competitors in the conservation branch, 19 in the reading and 39 in the recitation.
For his part, member of the Higher Committee and Executive Chairman of the Committee for Planning and Development of the Award Nasser Al-Kandari said, the award has witnessed a remarkable development during the current year, unlike previous years.
Al-Kandari said that the award is divided into four branches: memorizing the entire Quran with Tajweed, memorizing Quran with the ten readings, recitation, and finally the award of the best technical project serving of the Holy Quran.
The total value of the prizes is KD 130,000, he added, praising the outstanding effort exerted by the ministry in organizing the award until it became one of the strongest international and Islamic award.
He stressed that the State of Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, has rehabilitated and prepared its participants in the center of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari for memorizing the Holy Quran for six months. (end) amn.tab.nhq
