France wishes Egypt's Al-Sisi full success

PARIS, April 3 (KUNA) -- The French Foreign Ministry on Tuesday wished the newly-elected President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi "full success" in his mandate and said it hoped his election would "satisfy the legitimate aspirations of the Egyptian people." Paris hopes Al-Sisi's election will provide Egypt and its people with "security, prosperity and full expression of freedoms in the constitutional framework," the ministry said in a statement.
The statement added that France would be "resolutely at Egypt's side to face the common challenge of terrorism" and also to work together to help resolve regional crises and develop cooperation within the UN system.
In addition, the French statement stressed a willingness to "accompany the Egyptian authorities with courageous economic reforms... and pursue the dialogue undertaken with them on human rights and fundamental freedoms." Egypt should also garner support and count on "pluralism, dynamism and civil society" as strength to combat terrorism and religious radicalism, Paris urged.
Al-Sisi was elected in last weekend's ballot with over 97 percent of votes with a turnout of around 41 percent. (end) jk.gb
