Kuwait puts final price tag on domestic labor

KUWAIT, April 3 (KUNA) -- Anyone looking to hire the services of a domestic worker through one of the government-accredited offices interspersed throughout the country will now have to a pay a total sum of KD 990 (USD 3,267).
As per a decision made by Kuwait's Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan, those who prefer to handle the process on their own are required to provide the office with a copy of the domestic worker's passport, which costs KD 390 (USD 1287).
The rates provided are fixed and not subject to change, the Kuwaiti commerce industry stressed in a statement, warning any violators of legal action.
Meanwhile, it pointed out that the decision will be in effect for a trial period of six months, pending re-evaluation. (end) mga.ht.nam
