By Al'a Al-Huwaijel BASRA, Iraq, April 3 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti media delegation's visit to the city of Basra will lead to the bolstering of relations between Kuwait and Iraq, said a Kuwaiti diplomat Tuesday.
Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait's consul to the southern Iraqi city Ambassador Yousef Al-Sabbaq said that the Kuwaiti media delegation's visit to Basra, which began Sunday, included several meetings with senior local officials.
He indicated that finding ways to boost investments was one of the major issues discussed during the meetings, adding that a proposal was made to open a commercial bureau at the Iraqi embassy in Kuwait, which will be directly tasked with handling the affairs of mutual Iraqi and Kuwaiti enterprises and businesses.
The Kuwaiti diplomat indicated that Basra used to be a destination for Kuwaitis seeking tourism in the past, saying that to revive this aspect, local authorities in the southern Iraqi city must work on measures to attract visitors from Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti media delegation arrived last Sunday for talks with local officials and visit archeological sites in the nearby Thi Qar Governorate.
The delegation also includes KUNA Deputy Director General for Editorial Saad Al-Ali, Chief Editor of Al-Anbaa Newspaper Yusu Al-Marzouq, Chief Editor of Kuwait Times Abdulrahman Al-Ulayyan, Media Advisor at His Highness the Prime Minister's Diwan Hassan Al-Sayegh, and others. (end) ahh.gta
