Military operations kill 23 fighters in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, March 30 (KUNA) -- At least 23 rebels were killed, including 16 Taliban fighters, and 21 others wounded as the Afghan Army carried out 69 raids over the past 24 hours in different parts of Afghanistan.
According to a statement by the Afghan Defence Ministry, the special operations aimed to secure areas which are under the threat of "terrorists".
The operations were conducted in Farah, Badghis, Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Uruzgan, Ghazni and Helmand provinces.
The ministry added that the operations were supported by Afghan Air Force fighters, which carried out at least 100 sorties.
On the other hand, the statement did not provide information about military casualties.
Meanwhile, a Defence Ministry official told local media that the offensives aim to secure the country ahead of upcoming parliamentary and district council elections. (end) sbk.sd
