KUWAIT, March 24 (KUNA) -- An action-packed Arab rowing championship came to an end Saturday, in which athletes representing eight Arab nations battled for supremacy in the third edition of the tournament.
Algeria's Shukoy Bouziani raced his way to victory in the men's lightweight division, with Emirati Hamad Al-Matroushi and Kuwaiti Mohammad Al-Saffar trailing second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, Bouziani's compatriot Amina Warba finished first in the lightweight category, ahead of Kuwait's Wafia Salah and Lebanon's Tala Saab, in that order.
In the men's Under-23 division, Bahrain's Mohammad Qambar took home the title, while Kuwaiti Abdulwahab Al-Safran finished second, followed by Lebanese Mohammad Saab's third.
Algerian Zabaida Lashoub won the women's Under-23 category, besting Lebanon's Isra Salamai and Kuwaiti Fai Al-Mulla, who came in second and third.
With its origins dating back to ancient Egyptian times, the sport of rowing involves propelling a boat on water with the use of oars, an apparatus with a long shaft and broad blade. (end) fr.amh.nam
